SPOTLIGHT ON: Zen and Company

zen book with love noteIf you have never been to Zen and Company in Kennebunk, you are really missing out.

Beautiful clothing and (Dansko!) shoes? They have them. A wide variety of oracle cards? They have them. Excellent books*? Yes! The most amazing crystals? OMG, yes! Yes! They have those, too!

Even more important is this: once you pass through the door of Zen and Company, you will not ever want to leave. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting, it just wraps around you like a big warm hug.

All of the staff will welcome you and help you figure out what you want, even when you aren’t sure exactly what that is. Have questions? They can help you. Curious about what the cards in that oracle deck you have your eye on look like, and there isn’t a demo deck open? Just ask them and they will open the deck up for you. You know you need a crystal, but aren’t sure which one? Sue is not only knowledgable, but is also has a knack for helping you define what your own intuition is trying to tell you that you can’t quite grasp on your own.

Maybe you are shopping for a nice dress (eg: a dress you look hot in) to wear to dinner on your twenty-fifth wedding anniversary but you have zero fashion sense (hello? me!). They will help you find the perfect dress! I looked amazing on my 25th anniversary in the dress that Sue helped me pick out at Zen! Just sayin’!

*So maybe you noticed that I mentioned they have books? One of the (fabulous) books they have is MY book, One Brave Thing. So go, already!

 

Message from hawk

Red tail hawkI was coming home from an author talk and my husband (who was driving) noticed something by the side of the road.

He: “Hey, did you see that?”

No, I didn’t see it. I never see anything.

Me: “No, what is it?”

He: “A hawk.”

Me: “No way!”

Feeling bad that I missed it, he banged a U-y and we went back to the spot where he saw it. And there it was! A hawk, standing in a puddle on the side of a busy road in Lexington (I think-did I mention that I have no sense of direction?). Like she was waiting for me to come back. To let me see her.

He waited for a long time.

And then I did see him! He posed for pictures! He turned to let me get a shot from every angle!

Me: “What kind of hawk is it?” 

He: “A red tailed hawk.”

Me: (I knew he’d know. He always knows that kind of stuff. Makes me proud. 🙂 )

So now I know enough now to know that there was a message for me here.

I went to my go-to website for such things (lilysongbird.com) to find out what the message was.

Here’s what it says:

HAWK signifies being caught up in too many details, so step back so you can get a greater perspective on the situation. Stay alert and focused on the task before you, eliminating as many distractions as possible. Spend some time observing and studying the situation and when it’s time for action, make it quick and decisive. Pay close attention to your surroundings, as you’re about to receive an important message. Be aware of any personal or psychic attacks and be prepared to defend yourself. Stop trying to change others or the situation and work instead on accepting things as they are.

Learning from others

I went to the Kennebunk Community Market a few weeks ago, and I saw another author selling her books. Hello? Great idea! She was very Kimberly Suekind and answered all of my (zillions of) questions about how she got started and such.

I loved how she set up her table, how visually appealing it was, and spent several minutes admiring it. I am always looking for ideas for how to arrange my books and paraphernalia, and I take my inspiration where I find it.

This is Kimberly Sue McLaughlin, author of Come Running When I Call. I know this book is about a girl and her horse (because I talked with the author and read the cover!) but I haven’t yet read it myself. It is on my list! I love reading books by local authors, especially those that I’ve met.

You’ll know when I’ve finished reading it because I will post a review of the book right here on my blog.

You don’t have to wait for that though! You can come down to the Kennebunk Community Market on Saturday morning and buy your own copy, signed for you by the author! While you are there, stop by my table, where I will be selling and signing my book, One Brave Thing!

Bunnies for sale!

My daughter’s friend has been raising bunnies (some are rescued bunnies) and there are now some ready for sale. Presenting Brianna’s Bunnies (click on the pictures for some notes about the bunny):

FROM THE SELLER: There is also a tenth bunny (not yet named so you can name this one yourself!) for which there is no picture yet available. The seller doesn’t really know much about her. She came from a friend of hers whose her kids lost interest in her.  She loves other bunnies and is really pretty. If you are interested in her, she will send a picture.

PLEASE NOTE:  You will need a cage, and of course, food and a water source for your new bunny. One bunny costs $20, or you can buy two for $35. Comment below with your name and phone number and Bri will call  you back.

Please consider giving one (or more!) of these bunnies a loving home.
